This electrical aircraft Accelerometer (aka G-Meter) is a Type B-4

The knob rotates the compass card to select the desired direction of flight

which would be rotated to align with the compass card floating in the reservoir below it

It is started by depressing the silver spring-loaded knob (lower right)
